Domestic Waste & Recycling Services

SCS Ltd provide the domestic waste and recycling service for Suffolk Coastal District Council. All 57,104 households are served with a full wheeled bin recycling service operating on an alternate week basis. This service enables diversion of waste from landfill to recycling and composting, resulting in a more environmental friendly process and a saving to the council of Landfill tax.

We have worked with Suffolk Coastal District Council to manage the transfer from a bagged to wheeled bin collection service over the last 5 years.  We are proud of the fact that the transition has gone smoothly, with minimal complaints and that we have been able to accomodate the needs of residents with restricted access for storage of bins.  We have responded to the concerns of elderly and disabled residents in agreeming assisted collections with them.

Our collection vehicles are fitted with vehicle tracking software and our rounds are carefully planned to ensure value for money and to minimise negative environmental impact.  Our staff are professional and courteous and many possess or are working towards relevant NVQs.

Our Waste Management staff are members of CIWM and provide residents and businesses with advice and information on waste and recycling issues, including those around Duty of Care and the Pre-Treatment of Waste regulations.  They make site visits to residents and businesses to resolve issues.

Our Waste Management staff promote recycling and composting services to our residents and businesses, including putting on roadshows, participating in events such as "Shovel it Yourself" days and giving talks to schools and community groups.  They produce, publish and distribute literature to promote awareness of recycling, reuse and composting.

We have helped our partner authority to in successful application for grant funding from organisations such as BREW.  We have piloted a number of innovative recycling schemes for businesses as we work towards finding solutions to their needs.
